Here is a short collection I created in response to Kevin Hodgson’s post about waiting for “emergence”. I created it for him so that he can look more closely at some of the ideas behind this key term. I created it, also, to demonstrate the fast prototyping and curation one can do with books now.
Here’s the cover created with PediaPress in partnership with Wikipedia.
Here is the book itself posted to Scribd after I edited a very little bit in Adobe Acrobat Pro
Emergence: A Wikipedia Production
Here it is as a shared file in Evernote.
Besides sharing with Kevin I wanted to demonstrate the idea that curation is possible anywhere and anytime with Wikipedia. Curation is a valuable skill that some might call ‘discernment’. I think that anyone can begin to develop discernment by creating and editing Wikipedia books. One might also introduce students to the idea of writing for a wiki and contributing to an open source institution. Creative commons and the commons itself could be part of this short course.

Thanks. This is helpful thinking. I love that line: Beginnings are Endings. But shall we flip it? Endings are Just Beginnings? I think so.
Reminds me of the song, Closing Time, by Semisonic that has the line that always resonates with me: Every New Beginning Comes from Some Other Beginning’s End.

Similarly, I have a friend who used to say “I have the questions for all of your answers”.

Really like this idea & approach to learning curation by working with Wikipedia texts.
Good stuff!
Thanks for sharing,
