A new class at USC is teaching students how to produce stories specifically for social media
The video looks like something you might seen on a site like BuzzFeed or Mic: Two women – one a Spanish speaker, the other an Arabic speaker – are asked how to say different words in their respective language. Pants? Bantalon in Arabic and pantalones in Spanish. Shirt?
I am always looking for ways to slide sideways. What I mean is that I like to grab tools, processes, and ideas from other disciplines and use them in my discipline–teaching readers and writers how to read, write, research and share their work. I saw the Neiman Lab post about the Annenberg Journalism School’s JEDI Desk and that little sympathetic haptic sideslide tone thrilled me.
What I want to do here is not so much sum up what is available but rather to provide resources for others to follow if they want. Personally, when I run into a post that discusses three new techniques in social journalism (wearable/VR/drone) then I am hooked.
Here is an annotated link to the above article with mostly highlights of materials that I can use.

I could curate this further, but if you have gotten to the bottom of this long post I should explain my purpose here. I proscribed a time limit on this post. I wanted something I could come back to myself. I wanted readers to explore on their own and curate a bit for themselves beyond my blitz filtering above. I could say that for my purposes I would read in this order to start: 13/12/7…but I’d rather you discovered your own way if you are truly interested.
Perhaps I should have used Storify?
