I have been thinking about folks who run toward danger,
I have been thinking about folks who believe in the common good,
I have been thinking about those who sacrifice for that good,
I have been thinking about those who act true for us all.
And I have been wondering would I do the same for you?
And I have been wondering would you do the same for me?
My tribe?
Your tribe?
Our tribe?
My country?
Your country?
Our country
The doubt is killing me.

Why does the soldier go forward in battle, or the fireman go into a flaming building? Why does the social worker keep reaching out to a troubled youth or family? It’s certainly not for the pay….although police and firemen earn pretty good salaries in Chicago and other cities.
I’ve posted a “Memorial Day: Just Don’t Forget” message on my blog almost every year since this one in 2005. http://tutormentor.blogspot.com/2005/05/memorial-day-just-dont-forget.html
I hope we can find ways to encourage many more to tackle difficult, even dangerous, challenges so that more people throughout the world can be saved.
