Here is the evolution of a poem.
A quote from Harold Jarche’s blog:
“The Enlightenment is over. Reason and linear thinking are becoming obsolete. But none of our institutions, including our markets, are designed for what is to come.”
A first attempt at evolving towards a poem:
The Enlightenment is over.Reasonand lines and the flattenedare obsolete.None of usare designedfor what is to come.
Expanding:
The Enlightenment is over.Reasonand linesand the flattenedare as obsoleteas the word “obsolete”.None of usare designedfor what is coming.None of us are readyfor The Entanglementbearing down. The operative phrase?“Now what?”“What now?”Neither. The operative phrase is:“none”.
Contracting:
The Enlightenment is over.Reasonand linesand the flattenedare as obsoleteas the word “obsolete”.None of usare designedfor what is coming.None of us are readyfor The Entanglementbearing down. The operative word is:none.“Now what?”
Revised (and most satisfying)
Reason.
Flattened
and obsolete,
extinct as the word “obsolete”.
What is coming?
What is bearing down?
I hear it coming.
I hear it bearing down.
I ask,
“Now what?”
Afterwards I ask,
“What now?”
Or should I have asked them
t’other way round?

Another Revolution of the Poem
Lightning’s never over;
it’s making its way
into sound, bearing
down on us with a
‘now what’ and
a ‘what now’ before
the ground hears witness
to reason, unflattened:
tangled in grief,
jolted in belief

I made comments to your poem in the margins and then revised that into a response:
Lightning’s never over!
It will make a believer of us
growling from light to sound
bearing down on us with a
‘now what Hallelujah,
a ‘Saul on the road to Damascus‘what now’.
Short-circuited,
the ground hears witness to reason
a souffle of unreason
unflattened
tangled in grief, jolted in belief
a meal fit for the transfixed.
