MY friend Kevin sent me a snail mail copy of a recent New Yorker article about Wendell Berry because it is behind a firewall.  At the same time I ran across a YouTube interview with Chris Hedges that started with a discussion of “sacrifice zones”.  Poem time!

Sacrifice Zones

Places that are not in our back yard,
Places some of us can safely never ever know,
Places where public costs are borne by the poorest
and where the profit is the lonely domain of the rich,
Places where we hide the horror
that this is a system
where everyone every day
is complicit in
the long slow death of our planet,
the last sacrifice zone.
