Minimum Viable Newsletter Experiment: Jeremy Caplan’s Wondertools

I am always seeking to find ways to rewild what might be something as basic as a newsletter in ways that honors the work and enables the work’s purpose.  Jeremy Caplan’s newsletter of note is far from ordinary and when he recently used his own work as a use case in creating newsletters, I took that as an opportunity to make my own tiny newsletter better.

His Substack site is always a worthwhile read. Many of the tools I mention in my own newsletter originated in Caplan’s.  Hooray for Jeremy.  This particular one I wanted to engage with more deeply.  I also wanted to simplify it for my own learning purposes since he is so ‘link heavy’ on his site.

I used the Chrome extension “Link Grabber” to grab all of the links.  I copied and pasted all the links into an Etherpad.  Lastly, I customized the newsletter by deleting all the urls I did not want or need.  (Sorry, Jeremy.)  What I was left with was the “deep work” tools and aptitudes that I needed to improve my own newsletter.  Let the deep work commence as I apply Caplan’s lessons.
