I have been reading Dan Russell’s blog “Search/ReSearch” and his newsletter this morning. Russell’s book, The Joy of Search, was my ur-text for developing a “research attitude” in my students at all ability levels.  The best.  Now he has started a new blog for writing a new book about…unintended consequences and how we might might corral them better. In the end he asks us whether we really could have anticipated them.

I am intetested in applying this question to generative AI’s:  can we have a chat about the unintended consequences of ChatGPT?

And consider the last paragraph.  If it doesn’t scare the hell out of you, then you ain’t scare-able.

My recommendation if you are interested in ‘unintended consequences’ (and shouldn’t we all be interested?) of all-encompassing tech tools like ChatGPT, then read Dan Russell.
