This sentiment resonates across various artistic and cultural contexts, inspiring individuals to engage in creative and community-enhancing activities.

For instance, in 2024, several local heroes were recognized for their efforts to beautify and improve their communities. Jeremy Wadia and Katy Fox organized regular beach clean-ups, while Patrick Smikle transformed an alleyway into a peaceful garden space. These actions reflect the ethos of creating something beautiful during one’s lifetime.

Similarly, the intersection of design and mortality has led to the “death positive” movement, where individuals take control of their end-of-life plans, creating meaningful and aesthetically pleasing spaces and rituals that reflect personal values.

Overall, “Make Something Beautiful Before You Are Dead” encapsulates a call to action to leave a positive, creative mark on the world, emphasizing the urgency and significance of doing so within our limited time.

Here’s a handbook to use to do the same as above:

Course Handbook

Make Something Beautiful Before You Die: Philosophy & Practice

Introduction

Welcome!
