The image above is what Leanne Shapton coined as–“tablescapes”. Here are some of mine using the “thota vaikuntam” filter in Prisma, trying to capture the spirit of what she was trying. Shapton started doing paintings of her desk/working space landscape to give her husband Craig
An incidental picture of where the other is, what they are reading, or what they just ate. I began to photograph and paint these tablescapes when I realized I navigated my week and work based on the topography of my desk or tabletop.

Below is the tablescape of tools on the truck tailgate that I needed to fix the tail wheel (also called much more imaginatively “the crazy wheel”) of our bushhog. I love the idea that everything we do is smoke and wake and a casting of the past. Everything here served a purpose. So cool to have all of these tools. I feel so rich (in a good way) with tools and the skills to be woke to fixing shit. If I was a ship, then this is the wake of the job of fixing the crazy wheel on my tractor mower.

Another tablescape–making soil blocks under the shade of the plum tree. I have some very small seeds that need to be planted. I will make the soil blocks using the tools I have acquired over the years and then plant the seeds (milkweed and prairie dropseed are two of them) for a butterfly planting.

Perhaps I will emulate Leanne Shapley’s paintings and use this version (blurred using Snag-It) to create a painted version. I just can’t get enough of her low-bandwidth, lo-fi tablescapes. Daily Create anyone?
