I have been wanting for some time to be able to curate Hypothes.is annotation mobs much like I have been curating Twitter chats for years.
Storify has been my chosen implement of instruction for this. I love how you can live within its metes and bounds by using its share tools.
I argue my point below in a Storify that I hope demonstrates the user experience that is present and how Hypothes.is’ is lacking.
I find Hypothes.is to be a profound initial condition to conversation but feel that some aspects limit its ‘adjacencies’. In other words,
I would like to do something with the 144 annotations on the page. I want that something to be readable and I want to be able to do it with a minimum
of friction. Of course there are other tools available to do the job, but the curator wants what he wants. If you have a better tool for distributing the
task, let me know. If it makes the curation more transparent so that the tool recedes into the background and the work of ‘making sense’ foregrounds front and center,
then I will use it.

Great .. yes! I am working on a curation of sorts for the Hicks annotation … more tomorrow … let’s keep dragging the margins into the open …

We made this thing in the margins. Now what? So what? Blunt, difficult questions. If we can’t answer them to our satisfaction, then why should we mess with it. Because it’s there? To make learning…what? Let us heed the clarion skeptic yawps and curate like it ain’t no thing till the cows come home.

Agree with your concerns about Hypothesis. Found myself clicking the “show all” then scrolling down through all posts, just to find additions from the last time, a few moments earlier, when I did the same. Hard to have a conversation this way, but not too bad if you’re just visiting from time to time to read, reflect, and leave your own ideas.
I make the effort because the topic of these articles is so important, and building relationships with the other commenters is equally important.
Out of curiosity I just did a Google search for “hypothes.is bassill” to see if there was a way to find, or archive, the many different places where I’ve posted using hypothes.is since you introduced me to it. The search did pull up a list. Implications?
