Using Pocket to ‘Close Listen’

I love the good stuff baked into Pocket, the desktop and mobile app that allows you to bookmark whole blog posts and articles.  For one, it connects to many other programs including Inoreader. I have an rss feed for my Pocket account so that I can gather all of my foragings there.  For another, it has an utterly addictive ‘must reads’ section and perhaps the most creative post I have seen all year breaking down a slapstick gif.

You can  connect Pocket with other online tools using IFTTT.  I can label a Gmail and read it later in Pocket. I can star an article in my Inoreader feed to read it later in Pocket.  I can backup Pocket articles to Kindle.  You get the idea.  Ubiquitous and useful.  Nice combo.

But I suspect what you might be thinking–you don’t need more information.   It’s actually already curated and filtered– by you.  So just put good stuff in there to listen to, right?

Perhaps if you are a commuter (one hour each way in my case), then one aspect of Pocket’s mobile app might be especially worthwhile for you-TTS, text-to-speech.

It is quite simple to add almost any text to Pocket. Once done, the mobile app can be used to read it aloud.  I use a very high quality voice, Alex (896 MG download!) to listen to my articles, but I find the other voices to be acceptable.

Here is my list if you want to see what I am gathering:

Enjoy reading OR listening.
