I was reading an article from my RSS feed yesterday with this title: “Want to Avoid Being a Bad Boss? Here Are 5 Ways to Take Your Leadership from Good to Great“. Classic clickbait, maybe written by a bot, but it hit me upside the head. Got me to thinking about all the bad bosses and small business tyrant bosses and sociopathic bosses I had and have. These thoughts are hardened to a keen edge by the isolation brought on by COVID and “eight different bosses”. That’s my excuse for this mental state.
The article opened with some eye popping stats about leadership. Given these numbers, you would hope that the five ways from good to great leadership might be revolutionary and new. Nope. Same. Old. Crap. I could not let that mindless, electric boogaloo slide so I made this multimodal critique using Lumen5. (As a side note, Lumen5 has come such a long way and has improved their product so much. Just wish they had a ‘share to YouTube’ link Instead, I have to download the rendered video and then upload to YT. Not in any way a deal breaker. The tool satisfies a rhetorical itch and anybody working in this medium knows how rare that is.)
I know there are some substantive critiques of what I am trying here, but this is part of a larger and ongoing ‘curb stomping’ I have attempted to give higher education. Feel free to wander about and note how I really am mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. Getting close to retirement so you might want to stop by regularly for my five minute hate. Much of this work is rhetorical experiment. As a teacher, if you are not experimenting with these social and multimedia tools as well as connecting them to past tools and ideas , then you ain’t growing toward mastery. Amen.
