One of my retirement learning projects is something I am calling “minimally viable university” (MVU). I am trying to bring together several case studies of MVU from my own experiences and others’ as well. I figured it might help if I knew how to write a competent user experience (UX) case study with me as a sample of one.
Hence, this very thorough article and template showing how to write a UX case study might help to describe a “minimally viable product” for that MVU. Maybe you might find this helpful, too.
One of the uses I will be making of this is to begin to outline my UX with the National Writing Project’s “Write Now Teacher Studio”. Why? I am officially retired from my university today. I want to keep learning and want to share that journey if it helps others. What I am doing is creating my own minimally viable university as I enter my retirement. I don’t think you have to retire to do this. I believe that in a new learning ecosystem like we are all experiencing now, we must make our own needs and intentions center that learning. You are your own university.
Here is a video where I am describing my “sample of one” experience so far with Write Now Teacher Studio.

Go forward and multiply!
I like the idea “You are your own university.” I think I’ve lived that for the past 25 years.
I watched the video. Did you find a section on the WriteNow site describing how they set up the platform, what the cost is, etc. I was part of a “co-op convergence” planning ZOOM last night and they were talking about potential platforms for meeting and sharing. Your video does a nice job of showing the platform the WriteNow group is using so I’ll share it once I get a few more details about setup and costs.

If anyone is the poster boy for being your own university, you are it. What I want to do is to help others awaken to that truth and they have already have a “curriculum” and are taking “courses” and “getting certification s and degrees”. I don’t propose we adopt the school terms. In fact I want to reject them in the same way that I reject the idea of students in favor of learners. I want all people, even very young people to realize their own minimally viable learning products. Yours are manifold: tutoring, sharing via a website, awakening people to the power of mentorship, commenting and sharing online. All of these and many more are part of your MVU. In fact, I don’t even like the “university” part of that acronym, but you gotta start somewhere.
I don’t think they have told the story of how WriteNow proceeded from start to finish. I wish they would. I will sure suggest it. Every superhero has the de rigeur origin story. Duh. Are we not our own superheroes? Mebbe. My UX was only intended to note how I freshly approached the site. I did not how similiar it was to Google+ and Ning.

I like the “universe” part of “university”. There’s an unlimited amount of knowledge available. We just need to spend time as “learners” trying to find it, and as “coaches” trying to help others find what they are looking for. Intermediaries who collect and organize content, making it easier for learners and coaches to find specific information are really important, since there’s so much available.
