Deep Woolgathering: Frameworks as Filters to Guide Aimless Reality

I have been watching with great interest Dave Gray’s Twitter feed.  You should too.

Why?  Because there is a playful mixing of text and drawing that are useful and make you want to do. It is the same kind of feeling I get when I want to craft something.

His latest game is the use of visual #frameworks.  You might follow him in this Twitter Visual Thinking Community

I didn’t quite know how to apply the visual framework so I thought a bit out loud in this tweet to the visual thinking community:

Feeling my way through these visual #frameworks my first thoughts are to pin them down, describe them with text, but now I think it might be better to use them like a filter through which you view a question or a problem or… Whatever creative arises from that, arises from that.

Here is response to one of his visual frameworks as a filter not a set of instructions. The “filter” from Dave Gray is on the left and what I see through the filter is on the right.  What did I do?  I kept resetting to the drawing on the right to try to answer the larger question: what am I doing ten years from now?  I will return to this much as I do my ten-minute morning musings, highlighting and adding to and revising.  And then maybe nothing will result, but I suspect a thought or two will sail ahead amid the storms and the icebergs.

Surprising. Useful. Actionable.

I appreciate the link to Dave Grey, too. Looking at your example above I think of some of the spy novels I’ve read and how messages were hidden in the text. They requires some sort of cypher to de-code. Maybe Dave’s graphic put on top of your text, as you did, highlights a hidden message?
