Introductions

I am writing an introduction for a Discussion Board that we are sharing this week on my online writing course, Writing Across the Disciplines. What could my students really want to know about me?

First, I think this blog post by Dave Winer captures how I feel.

Scripting News: The future is ours

My generation gave you an open networking system of immense power. The millennial generation took that wonder of human ingenuity, discipline, cooperation and idealism and turned it into Facebook.

Second, here is my place in the world as made so clear by Wendell Berry.

Third, here is my about.me page:

I am a Sketchnoting, Learning Concierge, and Writing and Reading Instructor in Munfordville, KY. Read my blog.

Sometimes I have to saw my way out to get to work.

Here is a creative piece, what I call a ‘feldgang’, the German word translated as ‘field walk’.

Neither the Spider nor the Leaf Has Planned for Each Other

Or you might just think of me as Dave Winer thinks of himself:

  • born in 1955
  • 64 years old
  • ask about Medicare
  • legally unemployable starting next year
  • already unemployable
  • aren’t hiring many people at 64.
  • bewildering feeling of “When Did This Happen and Why?”
  • realize “Life is short”
  • look back on all those years and think — really? that’s it?
  • realize the incredible wisdom of the phrase “Live In The Moment”
  • get lessons from the past, but no actual living happens there
  • think about the future, a lot
  • it is not my future
  • silenced or put down because of age
  • future is mine as much as it is some 30-something’s
  • angry at being ignored or swept aside
  • future yours no more than it’s mine, not at species/evolution level
  • in a few moments you’ll be old
  • representative of the future, you are not an embodiment of it
  • no more a representative of the future than I am
  • we are contemporaries

Thanks for reading, my students and fellow learners. Thanks.
