You Never Know: Epistemelogicallllllly, That Is

NetNarr has begun again. Our colleagues are asking us to say our hellos in multifarious ways. So it is below.

First, I went to the YouTube and copied the transcript to Alan Levine’s intro to week one of #netnarr.

Second, I pasted the transcript, verbatim and littered with the lyrical oddity rife inside those “translations” into an etherpad (I get the same feeling reading YouTube transcripts as I get watching Google Meets with captions on.)

Third, I translated the transcript into a poem. I think the tone of my translation was colored by the Hypothes.is narrative that Wendy Taleo started here and that I followed.

Fourth, as I translated I backed up my work into the cool timesliders tool that resides in Etherpad.  It generates a “movie” that anyone can play back.

Fifth, when I finished my transcript translation, I used Screencast-0-matic to record myself reading the transcript-now-poem.  I saved that reading along with the timeslider into a single mp4.

Sixth, I used Screencast-0-matic to edit the mp4 and I added Jeff Tweedy’s “You Never Know” as a soundtrack.

Seventh, I uploaded the whole mess to Rumble, a newish YouTube clone because I knew YT would ding me for a copyright violation even a fair, non-commercial use.  Rumble keeps some pretty creepy right wing company, but there are also lots of innocent, sharing going on.

Eighth, I tried to embed it into the Hypothes.is annotations like YT, but to no avail.  But it seems to be fine below.

So, Alan here is me, saying hello, not waving, but drowning

Few people remix like you, Terry! This is insanely inventive. I did not know about that timesliders feature of Etherpad. This is feeding me an idea to maybe frame as a new media challenge (Poetify a Video?)

I much appreciate how you play and contribute here.

One trick I have used is to take the timeslide movie and convert it to a gif. I use an old tool called VideoGif for that.
